Smithsonian's National Zoo

The Smithsonian's National Zoological Park, a part of the Smithsonian Institution—the world's largest museum and research complex—was founded in 1889 and spans 163 acres in Washington, DC's scenic Rock Creek Park. Home to over 2,700 animals from more than 390 species, the Zoo offers incredible wildlife experiences. Don't miss seeing the beloved Giant Pandas, Asian elephants, tiger cubs, and exploring popular exhibits like Amazonia, Small Mammals, and Invertebrates. This zoo is a must see! Need to Know:

  • This tour requires a lot of walking outdoors. Wear comfortable shoes and dress prepared for the weather. Trip departs rain or shine.

  • Every Starr trip includes deluxe round-trip motorcoach transportation from one or more of our departure locations.

  • A Starr Tour Director will accompany you on this trip.

 

Accessibility:

  • Wheelchairs, electronic convenience vehicles (or "scooters"), and wagons are available on a first-come, first-served basis from the retail kiosks located outside the Visitor Center. Manual wheelchairs are free. Single-seat Electric Convenience Vehicle is $40 (subject to change). A state-issued driver's license or photo ID is required to rent and operate an electric convenience vehicle. Guests must be at least 16 years old to operate, and those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

  • All Zoo exhibits are wheelchair accessible. However, please be aware that the Zoo is located on hilly terrain in Rock Creek Park. In the Visitor Center lobby, a lift gives wheelchair users access to restrooms and water fountains. Benches are located throughout the Zoo.

  • Starr has a select quantity of wheelchair accessible motorcoaches available; therefore, we suggest you contact a Travel Advisor to discuss any needs you may have before reserving your trip.
