Gadsby's Tavern

Gadsby's Tavern was originally built in 1792 as the City Hotel and has been preserved and restored to its late 18th century appearance. Today the restaurant faithfully replicates the food, serving pieces, furnishings, costumes and entertainment of the period. Those who visit Gadsby's Tavern today enjoy an atmosphere that has been host to patriots, high society and presidents, including George Washington.

 

Gadsby's Tavern Museum

Take a moment to journey back to the 18th-century tavern and hotel where famous historical figures and everyday people dined and slept. Learn about the history, architecture, decorative arts, social customs, food, and clothing of a past era. George Washington enjoyed the hospitality provided by tavern keepers and twice attended the annual Birthnight Ball held in his honor. Other prominent patrons included John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and the Marquis de Lafayette.

This tour has a lot of time on own and the area is large. Plan on lots of walking to experience all there is to see and do on this tour.
