Ghostly Images Riding Tour with Storyteller

Embark on a tour of the countryside and town as your talented storyteller guide shares stories along the way of the history and mystery of the many sites you see in this amazing little town.

Jennie Wade House

Authentically furnished from cellar to attic, the Jennie Wade House is a shrine to Jennie and to life during the American Civil War. Just 20 years old at the time of the Battle, Jennie was kneading dough in the kitchen when a rifle bullet pierced two doors and claimed her life. The tour begins by traversing the grassy slopes of East Cemetery Hill. You will hear curious tales of ghostly soldiers, heartbroken women, poltergeists and other assorted ghostly encounters.

For the second half of the tour, you will enter the same doorway through which a bullet passed on July 3rd 1863, killing young Jennie Wade and making her the only civilian to be killed during the battle of Gettysburg. The ghostly tales to be told in this house have been recorded in numerous books and television specials. This humble home has been featured on Travel Channel's list of the most haunted houses.

National Soldiers' Orphanage Homestead Tour

Your tour guide will take you for a short walk in the vicinity of Baltimore Street and Steinwehr Avenue, sharing eerie tales as you pass locations such as Gettysburg's oldest, most historic building, the Dobbin House (1776), the Soldiers National Cemetery and the former Hall of Presidents & First Ladies Museum. This portion of the tour will prime your senses for entering one of the area's most notoriously haunted buildings.

Once you circle back to your starting point, in the location of the original dining room, you will be introduced to the story of the National Soldiers Orphanage Homestead. Journey down the original wooden stairs to the same dingy, dark dungeon where a cruel headmistress chained children to stone walls when they misbehaved. You will hear about the appalling treatment of the young children in her charge, treatments that some say caused their spirits to linger throughout the building for over 150 years.

Come visit what Ghost Adventures called one of the "Top 10 Freakiest Places in the USA" if you dare. This tour is 90 minutes long and requires climbing some steps within the home and some light walking in the vicinity. Be sure to bring your camera, as you never know what you may capture!

Soldiers' National Cemetery at Gettysburg

Established just months following the battle, the Soldiers' National Cemetery at Gettysburg marks the "final resting place for those who here gave their lives." At the cemetery's dedication on November 19, 1863, President Lincoln delivered his immortal Gettysburg Address. The Lincoln Address Memorial inside the cemetery commemorates the speech.

At the cemetery center, the towering Soldiers' National Monument features the figure of Liberty on a pedestal surrounded on the base by War, Clio (the Muse of History), Plenty, and Peace. In addition to the more than 3,500 Union soldiers buried here, the cemetery contains the remains of American soldiers and dependents from the Civil War to Vietnam.
