The Shriver House Museum, located in Gettysburg's historic district, offers a fascinating glimpse into civilian life during the Civil War. Restored to its 1860s appearance and furnished with authentic period pieces, this former home of George and Hettie Shriver reveals their personal experiences during the Battle of Gettysburg. Occupied by sharpshooters for two days and later used as a hospital for more than 2,000 wounded soldiers, the house also showcases rare Civil War artifacts. Visitors can explore all four floors of this remarkable home, though it is not wheelchair accessible.
The Gettysburg Seminary Ridge Museum offers 20,000 square
feet of interactive exhibits and educational programs exploring

the Battle of Gettysburg on Seminary Ridge, the human suffering
within Schmucker Hall as a Civil War field hospital, and the
moral, civic, and spiritual debates of the era. Visitors can
walk the halls where soldiers endured their wounds, hear
stories of duty and devotion, and stand in the iconic Seminary
cupola where Union General Buford observed the approaching
Confederate forces. The museums four floors, accessible

Authentically furnished from cellar to attic, the Jennie Wade House is a shrine to Jennie and life during the American Civil War. At just 20 years old during the Battle of Gettysburg, Jennie was tragically killed by a rifle bullet while kneading dough in her kitchen. The tour begins with a stroll across the grassy slopes of East Cemetery Hill, where intriguing tales of ghostly soldiers, grieving women, and other ghostly encounters await. Inside the house, you'll pass through the very doorway pierced by a bullet on July 3rd, 1863, the day Jennie Wade lost her life, becoming the only civilian casualty of the battle. The ghostly tales of this home have been chronicled in numerous books and television specials, earning it a place on Travel Channel's list of the most haunted houses. Please note, this tour involves climbing stairs within the home and light walking nearby. Don't forget your camera you never know what you might capture!
Explore the National Soldiers' Orphanage Homestead with a guided tour that begins with eerie tales along Baltimore Street and Steinwehr Avenue. Pass by historic landmarks like the Dobbin House (1776), Soldiers National Cemetery, and the former Hall of Presidents & First Ladies Museum, setting the stage for your visit to one of the area's most notorious haunted sites. Returning to the starting point, you'll enter the original dining room and hear the chilling history of the National Soldiers' Orphanage Homestead. Descend the original wooden stairs to the same dingy, dark dungeon, where a cruel headmistress once chained misbehaving children to stone walls. Hear about the appalling mistreatment that some believe have kept the spirits of these children lingering in the building for over 150 years. Experience what Ghost Adventures has dubbed one of the "Top 10 Freakiest Places in the USA" if you dare. This 90-minute tour includes climbing stairs within the home and light walking nearby.
Established just months following the battle, the Soldiers' National Cemetery at Gettysburg stands as the solemn resting place for those who made the ultimate sacrifice. During its dedication on November 19, 1863, President Lincoln delivered his iconic Gettysburg Address. Today, the Lincoln Address Memorial within the cemetery commemorates this historic speech. At the heart of the cemetery stands the towering Soldiers' National Monument, featuring the figure of Liberty atop a pedestal. Surrounding the base are depictions of War, Clio (the Muse of History), Plenty, and Peace. In addition to over 3,500 Union soldiers buried here, the cemetery also holds the remains of American soldiers and dependents from the Civil War through Vietnam.
