In 1874, President Rutherford B. Hayes allocated $15,000 to construct a lighthouse on this distinctive "nub" of land. By July 1, 1879, the construction was completed, and the lighthouse, originally known as Nubble Lighthouse, began guiding mariners. Among its impressive displays are meteorites from Mars, the Moon, and the Asteroid Belt, offering fascinating insights into the origins of our Solar System. Notably, the museum features the five largest pieces of Moon rock on Earth.
