Capitol Reef National Park

It lies in Utah’s south-central desert. The area is an oasis of colorful sandstone cliffs, impressive domes, and soaring monoliths, and was designated as a national park in 1971. The park got its name from the great white rock formations which resemble the U.S. Capitol building, and from the sheer cliffs that presented a barrier to early travelers.

Dead Horse Point State Park

Lunch at Goulding’s Lodge

Nestled in the hillside above the lodge, the Stagecoach Restaurant offers panoramic views of the surrounding cliffs, mesas and teetering structures of Monument Valley. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the menu features an extensive mix of authentic Southwestern and native Navajo cuisine, along with classic steaks and vegetarian options. A favorite dish is the Navajo Taco, made fresh with homemade frybread.

Goulding’s Museum & Trading Post

The museum opened in 1989 as both a showcase of artifacts and a glimpse into a bygone era. Goulding’s Lodge is not just a famous locale for Old West movies – it is also steeped in a rich history of trading, tourism, and culture. Goulding’s Trading Post Museum is comprised of several different areas. The first is the “Trading Post Bull Pen,” which was the heart of the trading post back in its glory days. This small showroom was where the locals would bring their goods to trade for items available, such as kitchen wares, canned goods, material and threads, and even guns. Many current items in the Bull Pen are original, including the old scales. Next is the “Ware Room,” which was just that during the trading post era. Surplus and supplies filled this room; bags of raw wool, crates of coffee, and saddles were stored here. Today, the Ware Room is filled with photographs of the early days at Goulding’s and of local Navajos from the 20th century. Display cases showcase historical pottery and other crafts from a variety of Native American Tribes.

Monument Valley Scenic Drive Tour

Led by a knowledgeable Navajo guide aboard a four-wheel vehicle. Explore the areas oddly shaped monoliths, buttes and mesas of red sandstone. This area was the setting for some of John Ford’s most memorable films.
