This 90-minute experience offers a fascinating look at both the truths and the imagined storylines behind The Sound of Music. Gain deeper insight into how the von Trapp family escaped Austria and ultimately made their home in beautiful Stowe, Vermont. Enjoy a 20-minute documentary about Maria's final visit to Salzburg, and you may even meet a von Trapp family member and hear firsthand what it was like growing up with Maria. Meet and greet subject to scheduling.

 

Von Trapp Lodge Tour

Take a guided tour of the Trapp Family Lodge and explore the remarkable story behind the legendary von Trapp family. View historical artifacts, artwork, and photographs that trace their journey—from their life in Austria to their new beginnings in Vermont. Discover memorabilia from The Sound of Music, both on stage and screen, and gain deeper insight into Maria, the Captain, and the family's everyday life as they traveled the world and worked the land back in Vermont.

 

OPTIONAL Meet the Cows & Informational Talk

Join the farmers on a 1-hour property hike to meet their friendly Scottish Highlander herd. They have an extensive history with this herd, so don't be shy about asking questions. Proper footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are required. The cost is $25.20 per person, book upon arrival with the hotel. (subject to change.)

 

OPTIONAL Wagon/Sleigh Ride

Take in the breathtaking mountain scenery of the Trapp Family Lodge & Resort with a 30-minute horse-drawn sleigh ride through peaceful pastures and woodlands. This memorable experience is $45 per person (cash only) and can be booked upon arrival at the hotel. (Subject to change.)

 

OPTIONAL Wine Tasting

The wine cellar at the Trapp Family Lodge features a curated selection of varietals from around the world, including Austria, Germany, and the U.S. Enjoy a guided tasting of sweet, dry, robust, and fruity wines handpicked by the lodge’s sommelier, paired perfectly with cheese and crackers. This experience is $35 per person and can be booked upon arrival at the hotel. (Subject to change.)

Magic happens whenever Elisabeth von Trapp walks into a room and begins to perform–something rarely seen and distinctly her own. Whether it is her ancestral connections steeped in her family name or her own experience as a conveyor of life’s experiences, both in song and words, Elisabeth’s concerts are part music/part inspiration. One could call her a “motivational musician,” but the beauty of it is that you enter her world not knowing that something wonderful is about to happen–and you come out the other end a better person for the experience.

Dinner on day one is included at the Von Trapp Lodge. Choices are:

• Roasted pork tenderloin with bacon mushroom Jäger sauce and Cabot cheddar mashed potatoes.

• Baked haddock with herb breading and white wine lemon caper sauce.

• Cheese tortellini with seasonal grilled vegetables and marinara sauce.

Dinner is served with a Caesar salad (romaine lettuce, house-made croutons, Parmesan cheese, Caesar dressing), pasta salad (cherry tomatoes, red onion, Kalamata olives, red peppers, basil pesto sauce), and Linzertorte and Sachertorte for dessert, along with coffee, tea, lemonade, and iced tea.

 

Dinner on day two is included at the von Trapp Bierhall

Dinner will be served buffet-style and features chicken schnitzel with braised red cabbage and arugula with lingonberry vinaigrette; Austrian sausages with apple sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, and house mustards; assorted fresh relishes; and sautéed spaetzle with roasted root vegetables including onions, carrots, celery, parsnips, beets, and garlic. Dinner also includes a garden salad with baby greens, seasonal vegetables, and balsamic vinaigrette; pretzels with house mustards; Austrian desserts; and lemonade and iced tea.

 

Dinner on day three is an Austrian-themed buffet, included at the Von Trapp Lodge

Dinner will be served buffet-style and features braised beef Hungarian goulash (GF) with potatoes, sour cream, and parsley; sautéed salmon (GF) with roasted potatoes, wild mushrooms, and mustard caper crème; and cheesy spaetzle skillet (V) with seasonal vegetables and pickled red cabbage. Dinner also includes rolls and butter, Austrian potato soup, and a mixed greens salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, and balsamic vinaigrette. For dessert: apfelstrudel, Linzertorte, and Sachertorte, served with coffee, tea, lemonade, and iced tea.
