Mount Washington Cog Railway

Experience the world’s first mountain-climbing cog railway on a one-hour round-trip excursion, complete with a short layover at Waumbek Station (elevation 3,900’). Waumbek Station is the cornerstone of their cold-weather service, featuring three large elevated decks with breathtaking views to the north and west, five warming huts, complimentary hot refreshments, porta-potty restrooms, and a large fire pit. During the stop, you may step off the train to enjoy refreshments and, on clear days, take in picture-perfect views of Quebec to the north and Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom to the west. You’ll also find a gift shop and museum, where you can browse, sip a complimentary hot beverage, watch the trains wind their way up the mountain, or simply relax and savor the natural beauty of the White Mountains.

Need to Know:

• Cog Railway: We recommend bringing an extra jacket or sweater, along with sturdy footwear suitable for snowy or wet conditions, as weather at the summit can be unpredictable. It’s often much colder at the top of Mount Washington, so come prepared.

• Every Starr trip includes deluxe round-trip motorcoach transportation from one or more of our departure locations.
