Winterthur Yuletide

Set on 1,000 breathtaking acres in the Brandywine Valley, Winterthur is one of America’s premier museums of decorative arts, once the country estate of Henry Francis du Pont. The magnificent mansion showcases the most extensive collection of American decorative arts in the world, surrounded by enchanting formal gardens, rolling meadows, and woodland paths. Inside, each room tells a rich story of American design, craftsmanship, and history, offering guests an unforgettable blend of beauty, heritage, and elegance. During the holiday season, Winterthur transforms into a magical storybook setting with its beloved Yuletide Tour. Guests enjoy festive, themed decorations inspired by classic literature such as A Christmas Carol, Alice in Wonderland, and A Visit from St. Nicholas. Lavishly adorned trees fill the mansion, alongside whimsical displays including a grand gingerbread replica of the historic train station, charming dollhouses, and enchanting toy train exhibits that delight visitors of all ages.

 

Brandywine Museum of Art Holiday Train exhibit

All aboard for a lifetime of memories! Your favorite holiday tradition returns to the Brandywine Museum of Art with model trains, dollhouses, and other miniature wonders, along with towering trees adorned with our signature, handmade “Critter” ornaments. A holiday favorite since 1972, the Brandywine Railroad features model trains running on 2,000 feet of track and contains more than 1,000 pieces, including locomotives, passenger and freight trains, and trolleys that pass through a small village, a farm, factories, a drive-in movie theater and even a carnival. A dazzling array of both toy and scale model trains can be seen chugging through the varied scenery of the expansive O-gauge layout, including those made by Lionel, Williams, Atlas, Mike’s Train House, K-line and others. There's also a variety of interactive push buttons and foot pedals for visitors to engage with on the display.

 

Meal Information:

 

Lunch is included at Winterthur. Choices are:

• Roasted turkey, applewood-smoked bacon, sliced tomato, lettuce, garlic aioli on brioche

• Spinach salad with strawberries, red onion, candied pecans, and strawberry balsamic dressing

Lunch is served with fresh fruit, chips, a cookie, and bottled water.
